Drug Discovery Group at KCL
The research group led by Professor Miraz Rahman at King’s College London, based in the School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences, focuses on advancing medicinal chemistry to address critical health challenges. Specializing in the design, synthesis, and evaluation of novel drug-like compounds, the group employs advanced computational chemistry, synthetic medicinal chemistry, and chemical biology techniques. Their work targets anticancer and anti-infective agents, with a notable emphasis on pyrrolobenzodiazepine-based DNA binding agents and efflux-resistant antibiotics and antifungals to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Collaborating with entities like Public Health England and supported by industry, charity, and research council grants, the group also engages in translational research, contributing to spin-out companies like Transcriptogen Ltd and Femtogenix Ltd, and exploring innovative therapeutics for conditions such as cancer and cystic fibrosis.
