Md Ashiqul Islam

Md Ashiqul Islam is a Commonwealth Commission funded PhD student in the Rahman Lab at King’s College London. He studied Pharmacy at the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh, and later worked at Renata Limited, where he gained experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and R&D. He then moved into academia, teaching and conducting research for two years, before joining King’s for doctoral study.

His research focuses on efflux-resistant azole antifungals, particularly in understanding their mechanisms of action against multidrug-resistant fungal pathogens such as Candida auris. His work combines mechanistic evaluation, microbiological profiling, and medicinal chemistry approaches to develop new treatment strategies for fungal infections.
